Defensive Driving Course

TLIC107C Drive Vehicle, TLI1051A Drive Commercial Vehicle

Passing a driving test doesn't make you a safe driver, all drivers must continue to develop their driving skills, many people incorrectly confuse Defensive Driving with Advanced Driving.

Defensive driving is where the driver uses the skills and knowledge required to drive a car or light vehicle safely, including the systematic, safe and efficient control of all vehicle functions, monitoring of traffic and road conditions, management of vehicle condition, and performance and effective management of hazardous driving situations.

The goal of a defensive driver is arrive at your destination safely without being involved in a road crash or collision, without injury to yourself or others, without damage to your vehicle or any other vehicle and with damage to property.

The Defensive Driving Course was originally delivered in Queensland in 1969 by members of the Queensland Road Safety Council, the goal of the course was to reduce the spiralling annual road toll to under 500 people. This course proved very successful which over 200,000 people have attended. For many years this was the best Defensive Driving Course in Australia where people travelled to Queensland to take part in this course.

The Australian Defense Department have also adopted this course.
